August 2005 - MEDFORD, N.J.-- Plexus Publishing, Inc. has announced its second printing of "Wave," a suspense novel by Wil Mara that was initially released in May. Wave has emerged as an instant summer hit among the throngs of Jersey shore residents and beach-goers. As buzz continues to grow about this new thriller set on Long Beach Island (L.B.I.), New Jersey, the book is steadily climbing Amazon.com's sales rankings. L.B.I. vacationers and inhabitants in particular are so enthralled with Wave that local booksellers have had difficulty keeping the book in stock. The surprisingly strong demand from booksellers required Plexus to go back on press months earlier than is typical for the small regional publisher.

"This book has only begun to scratch the surface of its potential audience, and already the response of the readers and the local media has been overwhelming," said Tom Hogan, President of Plexus Publishing, Inc. "It is a superior suspense novel, and that can be appreciated not just on a local level, but nationally as well. I think it's just a matter of time before the word gets out about Wave on a much larger scale."

Wave's success can be attributed to a number of factors including its balance of science, storytelling, and characterization, but current events may be giving the book its most significant boost. The novel begins with a terrorist plot gone awry. A 747 bound for Washington, D.C. nosedives into the ocean and a nuclear bomb detonates, causing a vast undersea landslide. Within minutes a tsunami is moving toward the Jersey shore and L.B.I. is directly in its path, with one bridge to the mainland and just three hours to evacuate.

Cheryl, a Long Beach Island bookseller, attributes the success of the book to Mara's ability to create believable characters and his attention to detail. "I was raised here on the island, and I remember the great March storm of the 1960s. If it was just weather-related I don't think it would be as good, but it combines two topics (terrorism and natural disaster) that get people on edge."

Other readers have praised Wil Mara's attention to scientific detail. Geologist and author Karenne Snow said, "Wave is a thriller that is really too compelling to put down before you finish reading it. It opens your eyes to disturbing possibilities. Best of all, besides the fact that it is extraordinarily well written is that the science is believable."

As the second printing hits the bookstores, Wave continues to entertain readers while getting them to think about the "what ifs" should the unthinkable happen.
