May 2005 - (Ithaca, NY)—Bowman’s Press (www.bowmanspress.com) has announced that The Fool's Path, an outstanding historical novel by new author Nancy J. Attwell is set for release on August 5, 2005. The Fool's Path, a genre-defying work of twists and turns that cleverly draws upon classic fairy tales, marks the first title in Bowman's Press' "Lothemian Legacy" series.

About the Book
In the turbulent thirteenth century, Sebastian, renowned knight and heir to the duchy of Westfeld, faces an impossible choice—either abduct and imprison the unsuspecting duke of Gildren, or suffer his friend, Raynar, to languish in his father's dungeon. Sebastian chooses to free his friend but the sordid bargain plagues his conscience. Seeking the means to save Gildren from the executioner, Sebastian walks into a mire of conflicting passions and loyalties, and, unwittingly, sets himself up as a pawn in a greater game in which the prize is the throne itself.

As Sebastian struggles to save the kingdom from treachery, the kitchenmaid, Ella, brings forth a golden key which will unlock the secrets of her birth...and threaten the future of Sebastian's dynasty.

In the vein of such fantasy/historical fiction favorites as Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, and Jack Whyte's The Lance Thrower, Attwell's haunting tale of betrayal, grace, and enduring friendship not only begins the saga of an extraordinary family, but unravels the tangled threads of fiction and fact to reveal the truth behind beloved fairy tales. With impeccable research and a quickly-moving plot, The Fool's Path is a must-read for historical fiction buffs and fairy tale aficionados alike.

About the Author
Holding a combined degree in classical studies and psychology, and an abiding interest in all things medieval, author Nancy J. Attwell has spent years researching dusty archives, translating diaries, and trudging through brambles and mire to view weather-worn faces chiseled in stone—all leading to her unrivaled status as the world's foremost authority on "Lothemian history."

While writing this novel, Ms. Attwell spent a year living in a modernized medieval village in Belgium with her family. She now lives and writes in upstate New York, where she is hard at work on the second book in the Lothemian Legacy Series, The Oathbreaker.
