December 2004 - This holiday season US$2 from each copy of A Musical Journey: From the Great Wall of China to the water towns of Jiangnan by Liow Kah Joon sold on Amazon.com until Jan 31st 2005 will be donated to the Half The Sky (HTS) Foundation.
HTS is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization created by adoptive parents of Chinese children. Since 1998 HTS has helped more than 2,500 children in under-funded Chinese orphanages overcome developmental delays through special education and nurturance programs. See http://www.halfthesky.org.
The name "Half The Sky" comes from the Chinese adage: “Women hold up half the sky”. Almost all the orphans are abandoned girls.
Of Liow Kah Joon’s donation to HTS, Emily Clarke, Director of Development said: "We are very pleased to learn about your book and the donation you will be making during the special promotion on amazon.com. Thank you very much! The book looks terrific — and as an adoptive parent I have just added it to my Christmas list!"
A Musical Journey is an American Booksellers’ Association Autumn 2004 Book Sense Children’s Pick. This unique book allows children (and adults) to understand China’s culturally diverse land and people and includes a CD of delightful folk music.
