Live Oak Media Receives Audie Award
Sweeps Category With All Five Finalists

June 2003 - June 2, 2003 -THE BLUES OF FLATS BROWN, performed by Charles Turner and produced by Live Oak Media, received an Audie Award in the category "Children's Titles for Ages 7 and under" at the Eighth Annual Audie Award Presentation in Los Angeles on May 30, 2003. The word-for-word recording of the book, written by Walter Dean Myers and illustrated by Nina Laden, is the story of a junkyard dog turned celebrated blues musician. Along with a spirited narration of the book by Charles Turner, the recording includes a performance by blues guitarist Mark "Dog" Deffenbaugh of the song "The New York City Blues", written by Myers and featured at the end of the book. Arnold Cardillo produced the recording with musical direction and sound editing by Rory Young, at ACME Studio in Mamaroneck, New York. Accepting the award was Arnie Cardillo, owner and producer of Live Oak Media, who was also the producer of the four other finalists in the same category. The other four finalists were: IN DADDY'S ARMS I AM TALL, by Javaka Steptoe, read by Javaka Steptoe, Robin Miles, Charles Turner & Lizan Mitchell; JOHN COLTRANE'S GIANT STEPS, by Chris Raschka, read by Richard Allen; SAVING SWEETNESS, by Diane Stanely, illustrated by G. Brian Karas, read by Tom Bodett; and SHEILA RAE, THE BRAVE, by Kevin Henkes, read by Laura Hamilton. In June 2001 Live Oak Media was awarded the Audio Publishers Association's Audie Award for Children Ages 0-7 for its production of OUCH! by Natalie Babbitt, illustrated by Fred Marcellino and read by Martin Jarvis. Live Oak Media has also received the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for the past two years. In 2001, the Grammy went to MAMA DON"T ALLOW by Thacher Hurd, performed by Tom Chapin, and in 2002 the Grammy was awarded to THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A FLY by Simms Taback, also performed by Tom Chapin. Both recordings were produced by Arnold Cardillo, with musical direction and sound editing by Rory Young. ###
