September 2000 - "Several months back, I had the wonderful fortune of beginning a truly meaningful teaching relationship with this remarkable woman. It has been so inspiring to know and teach her, and frankly, be taught by her in turn. I learned a great deal about Rheumatoid Arthritis as Shirley began to reveal her journey and share her experience with this terrible disease. I believe that all who listen and learn from Shirley's sharing will find her honesty, creativity, courage and personal revelations insightful and comforting. Shirley's passion and commitment have birthed this tape. It deserves its rightful place as another tool in the arsenal employed to combat Rheumatoid Arthritis." Arthur Samuel Joseph, M.A. Vocal Awareness Institute www.vocalawareness.com Sometimes, we are faced with the realization that no matter how well we plan for the future, our lives can easily change by something completely beyond our control. I truly believe in the saying 'When life hands you lemons, make lemonade'. The true test in life is how well you handle challenges when they are given to you. In my audiotape, 'My Journey With Rheumatoid Arthritis', I explain how I have responded to the health challenge that was placed before me 20 years ago when I was diagnosed with R.A. I have tried many traditional and alternative forms of therapy. It's important to realize that R.A. is a very individual disease. What works for some, may or may not work for others. So, the battle against this disease is a constant 'trial and error' approach before you find a successful path that works for you. My story goes beyond the medicines, and takes you into my personal life as well. I believe ones lifestyle is paramount in dealing with health issues. In the tape, I recommend eliminating stress and discuss the possibility that attitude has a lot to do with health. I produced this tape, because I believe it would be very helpful to others who suffer from R.A. I have no medical training beyond what I have learned from my doctors and physical therapists. I don't claim to have the 'Miracle Cure' for this as of yet 'Incurable Disease'. But, what I can offer to you, is 20 years of experience dealing with the ups and downs that this disease creates.
