May 1999 - The Audio Publishers Association has just announced the winners of the 1999 Audie Awards (the audiobook industry's equivalent of an Oscar) at a black-tie Biltmore Hotel dinner in Los Angeles. The winners included The Third Man for "Best Mystery" and Oliver Twist for "Best Solo Narration, Female," both published by The Audio Partners Publishing Corp.
These prestigious awards recognize excellence for the entire production and are the result of a juried selection. The individual judges listen to all the titles in a given category and name three finalists. "We are extremely pleased with the recognition of Graham Greene's The Third Man," said Audio Partners' Publisher Linda Olsen. "Martin Jarvis's reading is magnificent and this classic mystery is captured perfectly with its post-World War II dramatic moodiness."
Two of the three finalists in the "Best Solo Narration, Female" category were published by The Audio Partners, another outstanding accomplishment. These finalists are highly-recognized classics from the Cover to Cover unabridged series: Pride and Prejudice read by Irene Sutcliffe and Oliver Twist read by Miriam Margolyes. Winning the judges' top marks, Margolyes' reading is testimony to a great British actress's skill in portraying Dickens' varied characters. "If you have never heard Dickens read aloud, you have never really understood Dickens... it's an entirely different, wonderful experience," said Olsen.
The Audie Awards have been presented by the Audio Publishers Association (APA) for the past four years to recognize the creativity, talent, and expertise of those involved in he audiobook industry. The APA is a trade organization consisting of over 200 member companies including publishers, resellers, distributors, and suppliers.
