March 1999 - HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA -- More than a billion people around the world watch the Oscars on television. Yet very little is commonly known about the amazing origins of the motion picture industry. Now movie lovers can hear these entertaining stories in a unique audiobook, called Tales of Hollywood
Some of the stories covered on Tales of Hollywood include the early filmmakers greasing city streets to cause car accidents, which they could secretly film so they could save money on stuntmen. Or Charlie Chaplin using his studio carpenters to build his house to save a few bucks and how it used to fall apart from the inside. And there is the story of cowboys unable to find work on the screen, riding through dusty Hollywood Streets shooting bullets through windows and lampposts.
With a narrative that ranges the from earliest days of filmmaking into the modern era Tales of Hollywood features little known stories about stars such as DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS, MARY PICKFORD, LUCILLE BALL, BORIS KARLOFF, WALT DISNEY, CHARLIE CHAPLIN and SHIRLEY TEMPLE just to name a few. Fully orchestrated background music and sound effects enhance the narrative and help draw the listener into the different time periods being covered. RealAudio samples can be heard at www.hollywoodstories.com
Author/narrator Stephen Schochet researched Hollywood tales for 10 years then told his stories while giving tours of Hollywood. CBS radio called him "Hollywood's Ultimate Tour Guide." He is also the author/narrator of another audiobook called Fascinating Walt Disney. Schochet says, "Hollywood's past is full of fun and not commonly known anecdotes which have a rich oral quality. Movie lovers will love finding out how many of the most famous things in our culture came to be and getting a good laugh at the same time."
