Small Press Center to Offer Seminar on Marketing Books Online

September 1998 - To help meet the need for up-to-the-minute information on how to promote books on the Internet, the Small Press Center will sponsor a workshop as part of New York is Book Country on Thursday, September 24th from 5:30 till 7:00 pm titled "Strategies for Marketing Books on the Internet." Led by Doris Booth, Editor-in-Chief of the website Authorlink!, the session will be tailored for writers, small press publishers, and members of the general public, and will show how to use the Internet as a powerful marketing tool in assessing demand and in getting book titles seen and sold in the current competitive marketplace.
Demonstrations and discussions will cover: - the hard realities of what online marketing can and cannot accomplish
- using the Internet to develop the most marketable book subjects
- exploring the potential of online writing services, bookseller sites, and publicity outlets.
A host of related topics will also be presented, among them: clear definitions of electronic publishing and electronic marketing; state-of-the-art news of on-demand printing; proven ways to reach targeted market niches; methods of creating strong marketing plans for Internet use; and many more.
The workshop will be held at the Small Press Center, 20 West 44th Street, in Manhattan. It is free to members. A $10.00 admission charge applies for the public. This event will be held in conjunction with the 20th-anniversary celebration of New York is Book Country, the citywide bookfest which has been extended to five days, September 23-27.
