15th Annual Western US Design Awards

July 1998 - The Rocky Mountain Book Publisher's Association (www.rmbpa.com) has issued a call for entries for the 15th Annual Western US Design Awards. This prestigious award focuses on the works of publishers in the western United States. Winner and Runner-up awards will be given in each of ten categories: Jacket/Cover Design (3 colors or less), Jacket/Cover Design (4 colors or more), Trade Book Non-illustrated; Trade Book Illustrated, Scholarly/Technical Book, Guide/Travel Book, How-To Book, children/Young Adult Book, Art/Photography Book, and Publisher's Catalog.
Winning entries will be exhibited as part of a traveling display at regional and national trade shows and book festivals. Additionally, awards will be presented to winning publishers at the Awards Banquet of the National Book Publishing conference on November 10, 1998 at the Historic LaFonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Award winners and runner-ups will also be highlighted on the RMBPA web site for a full year with direct links to the publishing companies web site.
"These awards offer western publishers a wonderful opportunity to be recognized for the creativity and hard work they have done in their publishing of good books ", said Alan Bernhard, Executive Director of RMBPA. "Winning or Runner-Up awards can significantly affect a book's performance in the market and each year, the competition gains increased national recognition."
Last year's award winners included the University of New Mexico Press, Sasquatch Books, Alaska Northwest Books, Northland Publishing, Knowledge Exchange, Museum of New Mexico Press, Chariot Victor Publishing, Western Eye Press, Hartley & Marks Publishers, University of Washington Press, Monterey Bay Aquarium Press, and 3D Press.
To enter this award, publishers must be located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington or Wyoming. The Rocky Mountain Book Publishers Association is a trade organization established in 1977 as a professional group to serve specific needs of its members and as a forum for the discussion of publishing issues. Our membership ranges from small, independent publishers to presses with worldwide operations. Our associate members also include printers, designers, typographers, and publishing free-lancers. Membership is based primarily in the western states.
