July 1998 - Théun Mares, a South African author and teacher has provided confirmation of some of the teachings described by the late Carlos Castaneda.
Théun's first two books, Return of the Warriors and Cry of the Eagle reveal many of the hidden meanings that readers of Castaneda have struggled for years to decipher.
In these books, just the first in a proposed series of ten, Théun discloses that the ancient spiritual tradition that Dr Castaneda stumbled upon is known as the Toltec tradition.
Théun says "The Toltec tradition is an oral system of knowledge, that is constantly evolving and is based upon an experiential approach to life. This is a truly vast system of teachings that Carlos Castaneda has just managed to represent only fractionally in his books."
However, Théun provides authentication for the fundamental teachings and the spiritual path described in Castaneda's books. He says, "The relaying of an ancient, universal spiritual teaching was the primary purpose behind these books, and Carlos Castaneda was specifically allowed access to the training provided in the Toltec tradition, so that he could convey what he was taught to the world, through his interest in anthropology, in his books."
Théun goes on to state that whilst Toltecs are grateful for the service rendered by Dr Castaneda by presenting these teachings to the world, they have been saddened that the growing emphasis in Dr Castaneda's works has been on drug-induced experiences, mysticism and shamanic rituals. Such practices are not condoned by the true Toltec teachers of today.
Toltec means "a man or woman of knowledge". This path, also known as the Warrior's Path, teaches that the only real knowledge is earned the hard way, through practical experience of life. Thus the Toltec teachings are geared towards providing practical tools for ordinary men and women to rise above their social conditioning, whatever their life circumstances.
Théun Mares in Return of the Warriors and Cry of the Eagle shows in a clear and approachable manner how people can take charge of their lives and achieve an unparalleled measure of freedom and self-determination.
REVIEWS
Return of the Warriors
Napra Review (USA): "His prose is lucid and deep.... The material will feel familiar with anyone who has spent time with Castaneda's work, although I found Théun's approach more straightforward and jargon-free."
Conscious Living (Australia): "Without a shadow of a doubt, this book's clarity offers a wide path to intellectual freedom, spiritual joy and utter personal power."
Cry of the Eagle
Napra Review (USA): "The author's mission, disclosing the traditional Toltec teachings to the world, is carried on with integrity and respect with this important new book."
Magical Blend Magazine (USA): "Before I read this book, I was leery of yet another set of ancient new age mystery teachings telling me to embrace my shadow, nurture my creativity, or visualise light. I'm happy to say that this book does not fit into my preconceived notions. It presents Toltec teachings on the warrior's path in a well-constructed, precise and vigilant manner... This is a great overview of the work we all have to do in order to liberate consciousness from its own traps. It's not a path for dabblers."
