You don't have to get to the last page to start using these tips because
throughout the book, Fred Stutman, MD and author of 100 Best Weight-Loss
Tips blends science with simple things you can use right away. For example, why are nuts a good snack? They tell your brain to shut down your appetite. Walking will also dampen hunger pangs because it directs blood supply away from the stomach. What will help your body to break down fat? Soy foods such as soy milk, soy yogurt and tofu. And, low-or nonfat dairy foods will block absorption of fat from the intestinal tract, according to Stutman. Because this book isn't a diet, you can pick one thing at a time and gradually incorporate many healthy habits into your routine.

Warning! I know nothing about diets or dieting other than to cut back on the amount of food you eat. That’s why I tend to be wary of recommending diet books. That said, there are always lots of diet books and, in fairness, they cannot be ignored and there is always the possibility one of them may work for you. That is why I liked 100 Best Weight-Loss Tips by Fred A. Stutman, M.D. Dr. Stutman has written a half-dozen books on diet and fitness and his latest is recommended by The Physician’s Health Bulletin. For someone who has not dieted before or is on a diet that makes them feel lousy, this book explores things such as why the faddish low-carbohydrate diets can be dangerous to your health. Instead, this book promotes healthy eating habits and a rational permanent weight-loss system.

Former U.S. Air Force doctor Fred Stutman is back, complete with his trademark no-nonsense style and a take-no-prisoners approach that's way more “armed forces” than it is “lifestyles category.” (Stutman is also a veteran of diet books, with Walk to Win and Walk Don’t Die to his credit.) You’ll immediately find that Stutman is no fan of low-carb diets; tip #1 is “Low Carb Diets are Dangerous!” and tip #2 is “Low Carb Diets are Insane!” Thus, he ends up with a grab-bag of information, suggestions and recipe ideas. Some tips are jam-packed with, well, tips: #32, “Slimming Lunch Tips,” actually offers 18 different low-calorie, healthy lunches, and “Dinner Without Recipes” offers 16 tasty options. It’s not rocket science, but for readers lacking superego, Dr. Stutman could be just the thing. Plus: the drill-sergeant will get a lot of men to sit up and pay attention.

Diet, nutrition, and exercise expert Fred Stutman, M.D. presents 100 Best Weight-Loss Tips, a compendium that distills vital information to bite-sized bits for anyone striving to reach and maintain a healthy weight. From warning against common myths such as "Running and strenuous aerobic exercise are the best way to lose weight" (in fact, walking and moderate exercises burn fat during the first two-thirds of the workout, while strenuous exercises burn carbohydrates during the first two-thirds of the workout and fat during the last one-third), to the severe health dangers of low-carb diets, to why one should weigh oneself weekly instead of daily (there is often a "plateau" period where weight gain levels off - and it's unwise to trigger either the urge to celebrate with daily decreases, or the depressive tendency to give up if one's weight doesn't immediately decrease). A highly recommended, practical, straight-facts health guide for all Americans.
